Medicinal Actions: mild diaphoretic, mild laxative, diuretic, alterative, demulcent, antirheumatic, antispasmodic, anticatarrhal, caminative, emetic, anti-inflammatory.

Medicinal Uses: Is specific for the treatment of colds, and other acute infections with fever and hot dry skin, headache and nausea, rhinitis, asthma, croup, hay fever, conjunctivitis, rheumatism, pharyngitis, tonsilitis, and stomatitis. Sambucus flowers have anti-catarrhal action. The high content of vit. C in Sambucus berries potentiate these effects on collagen and mast cells.

It is defined as a gentle and non-toxic plant, suitable for use for extended periods of time, even in children.

Warnings: There are no known side effects or contraindications when using medicinal doses of the plant's flowers. Care must be taken when combining the plant with drugs from the barbiturate family, due to the increased activity of these drugs, which is manifested in the shortening of the onset of effect and the prolongation of the induced sleep time.
