The plant stimulates the effect of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin in the central nervous system. Also, it stimulates cognitive functions (thinking, data analysis, evaluation, planning, etc.) as well as the ability to pay attention, memory and study.

In Chinese medicine it is used to treat fatigue and weakness due to continuous stress. Also, to nourish the blood and calm the mind. Moreover, to treat lack of sexual desire and impotence.

Warnings: Overdose may cause hyperarousal, restlessness and sleep disturbances.

It is recommended to take the plant in the morning and avoid taking it in the evening and before going to bed.

Because it is an antidepressant and stimulant, caution should be exercised in its use in people suffering from bipolar conditions who tend to respond to antidepressant treatment with a manic reaction.

It also contains compounds that inhibit monoamine oxidase, the enzyme that breaks down “happiness” neurotransmitters like serotonin.

It is also used for the purpose of "balancing" the formula and to bring a "harmonious connection" between its various components, as well as to improve its taste and to protect the stomach from other plants included in the formula.

Warnings: Use with caution in anemia, hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, edema associated with heart failure, liver problems, kidney insufficiency, hypokalemia, hypothyroidism, fibrocystic breasts, male infertility or erectile dysfunction.

Avoid use during pregnancy due to lack of enough evidence.
