Organic Burdock

Arctium lappa

Medicinal actions: Alterative, Anti-inflammatory, Antimicrobial, Antioxidant, Bitter, Diuretic, Hepatic & Hepatoprotective, Hypoglycemic, Hypolipidemic, Immuno-stimulant, Laxative (mild)

Medicinal use: It has been used for centuries to aid digestion, heal skin, purify blood and cool internal heat. In much of Asia, burdock is eaten as a vegetable and it has an earthy, crunchy texture similar to lotus root. Studies show that burdock contains phenolic acids, quercetin, and luteolin, which are powerful antioxidants.

Burdock also has a constituent called Arctiin which dampens inflammation and protects the skin from subclinical and chronic inflammation. Most interestingly, its anti-inflammatory action targets cells where inflammation is induced through sun exposure, which is directly responsible for the breakdown of collagen. Burdock stimulates connective tissue metabolism through collagen and hyaluronic synthesis to regenerate and build the skin structure.

Warnings: The plant can affect the blood sugar level, so close monitoring (under medical supervision) must be carried out when treating people who are taking blood sugar regulation medications.

It is important to note that using the plant to treat skin diseases may cause a recovery crisis, which is manifested in the worsening of the symptoms.

It is advisable to start the treatment with a low dose and gradually increase it until the full dose.

Do not use during pregnancy.

Gotu Kola (Brahmi)

Centella Asiatica

Medicinal Actions: Adaptogen, alterative, detoxifer, relaxant nervine, diuretic, peripheral vasodilator, antibiotic (topically), nervous system tonic, CNS relaxant, anti-rheumatic, vulnerary, venotonic, keratolytic, anti-mycobacerial, anti-inflammatory, bitter, digestive, laxative, connective tissue builder and dermatological builder.

Medicinal Use:

In Ayurveda, there are certain herbs that boost the body’s natural production of collagen. One such herb is brahmi (Centella asiatica), also known as gotu kola.

Brahmi has become popular in many skin creams to support healthy skin with natural collagen production, but still, it’s better to feed the body with collagen-boosters from the inside out, rather than from the outside in.

It contains triterpenoid and asiaticoside compounds that, according to research, help the body naturally synthesize collagen proteins.

Research has found that brahmi supports the type of healthy collagen production that maintains the health of arteries in the circulatory system.

Similar research findings have revealed that constituents in brahmi stimulate the body’s natural production of brain-cleaning enzymes.

It is also known to boost memory and cognitive function, promote mood stability, and support cardiovascular health and the health of the intestinal and respiratory systems inner skin.

Brahmi has also been shown to support healthy mucus production in the stomach, which is linked to decreased cell shedding in the intestinal wall and a healthy digestive tract.

Warnings: The plant is not recommended for use by people suffering from fat absorption problems and/or a lack of vitamins A, D, E, K

Organic Horsetail

Equisetum Arvensis

Medicinal Actions: Immunostimulant, anti-inflammatory, astringent, anti-hemorrhagic, hemostatic, anti-atheroma, diuretic, vulnerary, connective tissue tonic, anti-rheumatic.

Medicinal Uses: It is one of the oldest plants on the planet. The hollow stems and shoots of horsetail are a rich source of naturally occurring calcium, magnesium, potassium and other valuable nutrients (including silica crystals). Many of the medicinal properties of horsetail can be attributed to its high silica content, which is easily absorbed by the human body.

Silica is an essential trace mineral that plays an important role in the development, strengthening, and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. Silica also restores weak connective tissues in blood vessels, cartilage, tendons, and collagen — the body glue that helps hold our skin and muscle tissues together. Silica speeds the healing of bone fractures, is said to help rheumatism and arthritis by improving the elasticity of the joints, and is recommended to athletes for sprains, pulled hamstrings and torn ligaments.

Contraindications:

No known side effects. Caution should be taken in situations of edema due to a functional problem in the heart or kidneys. Do not take the plant in combination with diuretics.

Organic Nettle

Urtica Dioica

Medicinal Action: Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, mild hypoglycemic, diuretic, antihemorrhagic, hemostatic, detoxifying, galactagogue, astringent, antiallergic, antirheumatic.

Medicinal Use:

It is a highly nutrient plant. It contains high amounts of calcium, silica and sulfur, which enables it to help boost collagen receptors.

Sulfur is not only necessary for the synthesis of glutathione, (one of the most important antioxidant and detoxification  in the body),  it supports collagen production.

Nettle is restorative and is best known for its antiseptic qualities.

For centuries, it has been used for hair care, preventing hair loss, promoting healthy, shiny hair, and even nourishing the scalp. Rich in vitamins A, B1, B5, C, D and E, its astringent properties help with tightening the skin, possibly preventing eczema, protecting our collagen receptors, and much more.

Warnings: Due to the content of tannins in the plant, there is concern that taking it may disrupt iron absorption. Although this effect is not significant, caution should be exercised when using it in people suffering from anemia. It is recommended to take the plant at least two hours apart from taking iron supplements; The use of the plant is prohibited for edemas caused by heart or kidney failure.
