As the summer sun shines brightly, we bask in its radiance, savoring its warmth on our skin. However, we should remember that while a little bit of sun can enhance our mood and Vitamin D, excessive exposure can lead to a world of trouble. UV radiation triggers molecular and cellular changes that damage our epidermis (the skin’s outermost layer) causing the painful, unsightly redness and peeling of sunburn. It can also lead to wrinkles, fine lines, and changes in pigmentation – all signs of premature aging –, as well as increasing our risk for skin cancer [1].

Taking care of your skin is more than just applying products.

It's about developing a routine that suits your lifestyle and your skin.

  • When you are out enjoying the summer sun, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated from the inside out. Drinking water also helps your body flush out toxins.
  • Enjoy seasonal, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, specifically red ones such as cherries, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries, red peppers, and pomegranate, which can cool your body from within and help your skin defend against UV radiation.
  • Replace carbonated drinks loaded with added sugars, which can make you feel sluggish and do nothing to hydrate your body, with refreshing home-made lemonade. Simply stir together 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice from about 6-to-8 large lemons, ½ cup honey, and 4-½ cups water in a pitcher. You can brighten it up by adding a handful of gently-crushed mint leaves to the pitcher, and serving over ice.
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially during the afternoon hours, and wear protective, lightweight, and loose-fitting clothing. Avoid synthetic fabrics that increase and trap in perspiration, cause itchiness, and lead to infections. Instead, choose natural fabrics like organic cotton or linen. And don’t forget to wear a hat and sunglasses!
  • Take a cool bath or shower in the morning and evening to revitalize your skin. Follow with a cleansing, toning, and moisturizing routine – we offer suggestions below!

Exposure to summer sun makes it imperative that we follow a daily routine that nourishes and heals sun-burned skin, combats aging, and protects from further damage and even cancer. MYRRO SKINCARE’s 100% natural SunCare Line is made using inorganic natural zinc oxide that reflects harmful UV radiation without common side effects caused by chemical filters often used in synthetic sunscreens, including disruptions in our endocrine system, cytotoxicity, neurotoxicity, skin sensitization, and allergic contact dermatitis [2].

Sun Protection is naturally boosted with the use of oils rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as oils from avocado, coconut, olive, almond, sesame, and Monoi, all of which help repair and regenerate damaged skin [3]. Studies have shown that sunscreen lotions made from these ingredients help filter UV rays and have SPF (sun protection factor) of 5 to 8, which can block out approximately 87.5 % of UVB radiation [4]. MYRRO SKINCARE uses Organic Monoi Oil in many of our products. This oil, derived by soaking Tahitian Gardenia petals in organic virgin coconut oil, is deeply hydrating. You can also use it as a pre-sun treatment to defend against UV rays.

Another commonly used ingredient during summer - and not only - is Aloe vera juice, a leaf extract used for centuries to reduce redness, inflammation and swelling in sensitive and sun-burned skin.

MYRRO SKINCARE’s Aloe Vera Soothing Gel combines organic aloe juice with Organic Lavender Flower Oil and Organic Lavender Flower Water, all packed with antioxidants and vitamins C and E that fight free-radicals and help prevent premature aging. Apply gently, especially after spending time in the sun, to cool and soothe your skin [5].

How to take care of your skin in summer

FACE CARE

Cleansing

Start and end your day with MYRRO SKINCARE Face Cleansing Soap for normal, dry or oily Skin or the Face Cleansing Foam, a gentle cleanser that removes impurities and rejuvenates your skin.

Exfoliating

Use MYRRO SKINCARE’S Face Scrub Cream or the Face Scrub Soap 2-to-3 times per week to exfoliate dead skin cells and reveal smoother, brighter skin.

Toning

After cleansing, use MYRRO SKINCARE’s refreshing Facial Hydration Mist to balance the pH level of your skin and help it absorb nourishing creams. Follow with our Revitalising Face Toning Serum, made from natural hyaluronic acids and panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), to boost hydration, smooth your skin, and slow down aging. Finish your toning routine with our Remodelling Face Serum Oil, an anti-aging and skin-firming serum enriched with Spilanthes extract and stabilized retinol that strengthen the skin’s collagen fibers and reduce wrinkles. Moisturising

MYRRO SKINCARE offers several moisturizing creams for every skin type. Our Brightening Day Cream is perfect for all skin types and protects against aging. Our Balancing Day Cream is a light moisturizer perfect for oily skin, while our Well-Aging Rejuvenating Cream immediately firms and visibly reduces wrinkles.

Eye Care

MYRRO SKINCARE’s Intense Lift Eye Serum infuses delicate skin with firming, high quality collagen and elastin. Follow with our Blue Lotus - Euphrasia Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream, which reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Euphrasia extract itself possesses protective effects against UVB-induced photoaging and improves eye health and function [6].

UV Protection Care

Apply our natural Suncare Face Cream SPF 30, which protects from harmful UVA and UVB rays and is boosted with anti-wrinkle ingredients such as natural co-enzyme and cold-pressed Organic Grapeseed Oil. For SPF protection with additional anti-aging properties, our Anti-Age Anti-Spot BB Cream is the solution for you.

BODY CARE

Cleansing & Scrubbing

Use MYRRO SKINCARE’s Revitalising Body Wash for an energy boost in the morning and our Relaxing Body Wash in the evening to help relax your body and calm your mind. Both body washes are made with moisturizing organic essential oils and are lightly scented to enhance aromatherapy. Then, gently exfoliate with our Body Scrub Oil to unclog your pores, improve detoxification and let your skin breathe!

Hydration

After spending time in the sun, apply our Aloe Vera Soothing Gel, ideal for soothing sunburned skin. For your daily moisturizing routine, hydrate your skin deeply by applying our light Citrus Blossom Moisturising Body Milk or our rich Jasmine Sandalwood Moisturising Body Cream. Both are easily absorbed and leave your skin moisturized and soft. For extra dry skin, apply our Vanilla-Hazelnut Body Butter to improve your skin’s elasticity and texture from the first application.

UV Protection Care

Apply our Sun Care Body Cream SPF 30 or our Sun Tan Body Oil , both of which protect from harmful UVA and UVB rays and combat aging, leaving you with radiant skin.

Infants and Children

For infants and younger children it’s important to make sure they are drinking enough water and eating a healthy diet. Gradually expose them to the sun beginning early Spring, avoid spending time in the sun in the afternoon, and use hats, natural white fabrics, and, when age appropriate, sun glasses.

For added protection, use MYRRO SKINCARE’s 100% natural Baby & Kid Suncare Cream SPF 50. Boosted with Organic Avocado Oil and Organic Lavender Oil, it provides extra nourishment and hydration to infant and children’s delicate skin.

After-sun and bath care are also vital for keeping infants and children’s skin healthy. Always use a mild wash, free of harsh detergents that deplete skin’s natural oils, like our Baby Shampoo & Washing Lotion. Follow up with Baby Moisturising Oil for Sensitive Skin, to maximize hydration. Both our Washing Lotion and Baby Oil are enriched with organic botanical extracts of Calendula and Chamomile, providing extra protection and nourishment.

Enjoy your summer - safely!!
